Jelasia Vasquez Obituary

Jelasia O. Vasquez, age 99, passed away to be with the Lord on Friday, March 11, 2022, at her residence in Elsa, Texas surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 21, 1922, to Maria Faz+ and Catarino Orozco+ in Cedral, San Luis Potosi, Mexico. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Catarino Vasquez+ and numerous siblings.
Mrs. Vasquez was a strong, hard-working and independent woman that did all kinds of work throughout her life. She married at a young age and loved her husband very much. They came from Mexico for a better life and settled in the Delta area. She was widowed at the age of 47. She was a loving and dedicated mother whose priority was the welfare of her children. She was also an affectionate grandmother, great-grandmother, and a great friend. She will fondly be remembered for her cooking (especially her tamales) and her passion for gardening. She loved being outdoors with her plants, even on hot days, and sitting out on the porch in the evenings, talking with her loved ones. Her younger daughter Maria Leonor was her constant companion and they had a very special bond.

Mrs. Vasquez is survived by her loving children Efrain (Susie) Vasquez of Dallas, Uvaldo (Lupita) Vasquez, Maria Leonor Vasquez, and Yolanda Vasquez Rodriguez of Elsa. She is also survived by her nephew Juan (Frances) Vasquez of La Blanca. Her only surviving sister is Luisa Moreno from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. She is also survived by four grandsons: Alex Vasquez, Omar (AnaLisa) Vasquez, Eric (Julia) G. Rodriguez, and Albert (Aurora) C. Vasquez and four granddaughters: Denise (Murphy) Vasquez Rayle, Annie (Levi) Vasquez Castillo, AmandaRae Rodriguez, and Audrey Vasquez. Mrs. Vasquez was blessed to have eight great-grandchildren: Becky, David, Lucas, Oliver, Albert Jr., Sofia, Connor, and Amelia and many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. Honoring her memory as her pallbearers are; Alex Vasquez, Eric G. Rodriguez, Albert C. Vasquez, Juan Vasquez Jr., Eddie Vasquez, Omar Vasquez, and Manny Vasquez.
