Elsa, Tx. –It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of Maria Luisa Rivas, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother and a respected member of her community on January 5, 2025 at the age of 69. Maria Rivas was born on August 12, 1955 to Valentine and Rafaela Rivas in Elsa, Texas.

Maria Luisa dedicated 40 years of her life as a paraprofessional with [EEISD/Elsa-Edcouch Independent School District], where she touched countless lives with her unwavering commitment to education. Her patience, kindness, and dedication to her students left a lasting impact and a legacy of learning and growth.

She also cherished the company of her friends, often enjoying outings filled with laughter and love. Above all, Maria treasured her time with her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. Her warm hugs, gentle wisdom, and endless love will be remembered by all who were fortunate to know her.

After retiring, Maria Luisa embraced the simple joys of life. She discovered a deep passion for gardening, where she nurtured vibrant blooms and greenery, finding peace and fulfillment in nature’s beauty. Her garden was a reflection of her nurturing soul and served as a source of joy for her and her loved ones.

She also cherished moments spent going out, whether exploring new places or sharing laughter and stories with friends and family. Maria had a special gift for bringing people together, and her warmth and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Above all, she was a pillar of love and strength for her family. Her children and grandchildren will forever carry the lessons she imparted, the love she freely gave, and the memories they created together.

Maria Luisa is survived by her daughter Kimberly Gonzalez (Justin Castillo), grandchildren; Marcus Castillo and Saphira Castillo and a brother Valentine Rivas. Preceded in death by her parents Valentine and Rafaela Rivas.  

The Family of Mrs. Maria Luisa Rivas invites friends and family to celebrate her life with visitation on Friday, January 10, 2025 from 2:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Eternal Light Funeral Home located in Elsa, Texas. Chapel Service for Mrs. Rivas will have a chapel service on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Eternal Light Funeral Home in Elsa, Texas with internment to follow at Anahuac Community Cemetery in Edcouch, Texas. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Eternal Light Funeral Home of Elsa, TX.
