Mercedes, Tx. – It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Rene
Rodriguez, who departed this world peacefully surrounded by family on October 7, 2024
at the age of 72. Rene left an indelible mark on anyone fortunate enough to have known
him. Rene Rodriguez was born on March 10, 1952 to Manuel and Josefina Rodriguez in
Raymondville, Texas. Mr. Rodriguez had a passion for music and especially loved
playing the guitar. His love for the guitar and singing ministered to many people. He
shared his gift of music and spent countless time serenading his family or leading hymns
at his beloved church. Music was not just a past time for Rene Rodriguez; it reflected his
vibrant spirit and love he carried in his heart for God and others.
Mr. Rodriguez was a very strong man of faith which was the cornerstone of his life. He
was a dedicated member of Gateway United Pentecostal Church in Raymondville, Texas
where Rene served his community with unwavering devotion. His church family will
forever remember him for his kindness, his leadership, and the music that brough people
together in worship and praise.
Above all Rene Rodriguez loved his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife,
Virginia Rodriguez, and a proud father to his children Michael, Ismael, Rachael, and Vira
Marie. Rene taught and guided his children while still being a handyman by trade. Later
in his life found joy in spending time with his grandchildren. Whether strumming a guitar
or simply sharing a laugh, his grandchildren will always cherish the memories of their
time with “Grandpa.”
Rene Rodriguez is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Rodriguez; his children: Michael
Rodriguez (Suzanne), Ismael Rodriguez, Rachael Sanchez (Eric), Vira Marie Rodriguez,
14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Mr. Rodríguez is also survived by siblings:
Juan Manuel Rodríguez, Ricardo Rodríguez, Rubén Rodríguez, and Raúl Rodríguez.
Rene Rodríguez is preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Josefina Rodríguez, and
his sisters María Elena Salinas and Susan Rodríguez.
A celebration of Rene Rodriguez’s life will be held at Gateway United Pentecostal
Church on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Rene will have
visitation on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Gateway United Pentecostal Church from
10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a service to follow from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Mr.
Rodriguez will have a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday October 10, 2024 at
Gateway United Pentecostal Church with burial to follow at Raymondville Memorial
Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Eternal Light Funeral Elsa, Texas
